Hello there. Introduction (I hope)
Hi I new to this forum but I have been involved in wood working off and on for aobut 15 years. I live in Waldorf MD and am 66 years old.
Right now I have an immediate need for some information. My dad passed away last Friday (even at this age, it is rough). He had a full military funeral and we were given The Flag (you know the one). And now I want/need/have the honor to make the display case for it. I have available any number of wood types (Oak,walnut, maple, cherry) in my stockpile. I also have a lot of Oak from an old honored tree that has been air drying for four years (not kiln dried-it sure would be nice to use that). The case will not only have the flag but his discharge papers. I need to know what to do to the wood, they type of glass or Lexan, type of sealant and type of varnish (or finfish)that any of you can recommend (or internet site with that info) prevent any deterioration of those papers and the flag.
Thank you in advance.
