Hi there, I am the stirrer on this forum, along with a couple of others.
My Dad left me his old bureau but unfortunately, the lid is bowed and in very poor condition, Better examples in local antique store for $100.
I do also have his secretaire (chest with fold down flap on top drawer) which eventually will sell or give away.
My daughter lives in an old cottage with open fire so I am gradually reducing the bureau to kindling so she can send the bureau upto grandpa.
Found that finish was mainly scumbled stain to resemble good wood.
Actual wood resembles what we we used to call 'American Whitewood', has no noticeable grain.
This is how I got onto this forum. I needed to sharpen my axe.
Axe is now sharp
