Hello from Southwest Virginia

My name is Shane and I have been hobby woodworking for at least 20 years. I worked 19 years underground in coal mines but was injured in a rock fall 2 years ago. After a few sugerys I can walk but I am now retired and plan to split my time with family and my woodwork.

I work from my garage shop but will be starting my new woodshop in the spring. Planning on at least 28x40 but hope to go bigger as money will allow.

I have made everything from rolltop desks to grandfather clocks with reasonable results but have been doing alot of scrollsawing as of late.

I live in Virginia on our 13 acers of timber and get most of my stock from the property. I use a small chainsaw mill and then to my 13 inch planner to get usable lumber. My last project was a half moon hall table with double mirrors above.

I think I covered everything asked in the guideline above. I am not a pro by any stretch but enjoy as much the shop time as I can get.

USE THE GUARDS! I started with 10 fingers and still have most of 'em left

Welcome Shane, I grew up in Southwest Va. Ever heard of Norton, Wise, Big Stone Gap? A lot of my family live there now and also worked the mines.

You'll enjoy this site, a lot of good information and a few entertaining characters to follow.

Welcome Shane,

I'm relatively new to this forum also, I've just posted my intro. But what I've seen, you'll be happy you did.

Incedently, I like to know more about your chainsaw mill and its operation. Maybe you could do a post in the 'Milling' section. And as they always say 'Pics Please'.
