Hello from Philly

I have been on this site reading for a few weeks and joined up a week or so ago,and I thought it was time to introduce myself. It seems like there is a lot of nice people here.I have a portable table saw and a mitre saw and recently bought a router of which I haven't even plugged in yet.I'm sure I can build some sort of cabinet but I'm not sure about the table top.The router plate in particular.I'll be making my first trip to a Woodcraft store tomorrow or Wednesday.Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.I understand that some are adjustable. So hello to all. Thanks,
George.

Maybe I meant router insert.

George,
Welcome to the forum. Good luck on your router table. You might want to take someone with you to Woodcraft for the first time, just in case you faint or your credit card melts.

I second that. Welcome the forum. As for your table top I would use MDF, two pieces together glued and screwed. If you wanted to you could use Melamine for the top piece and MDF for the bottom. You want to make sure it is big enough. I believe mine is somewhere around 2'X3'. Good luck at Woodcraft, you may want to wear a helmet.

Assumption is the mother of all foul -ups

Welcome George. Sounds like you're off to a good start on getting some good power tools together. Don't forget the basic hand tools though!
