Hello from the Pacific North-WET!

Hi, just joined. My name is Chris. Have always been a garage-based Mr. Fixit with an eye towards wood-working. I am a mechanical/aerospace engineer by trade, but the work I do I find boring and not hands-on enough, so working with wood is my "happy place."

I have a pretty nice shop that we renovated for a now defunct home-based sign-making business that the economy helped to take down. It is 30x36 with 13 foot ceilings and full-spectrum lighting. When we remodeled it, we put in all 20-amp circuits, a couple dedicated ones and a couple 220V circuits as well. So with that, am pretty well set on the man-cave.

Well, on to the posting!

Chris A.

Welcome Chris! What part of the NW? We lived in Washington and Oregon.

We are technically in Arlington, but reside closer to Marysville (semantics, really)...so about 30 miles north of Seattle.

We lived over behind Paine Field in Everett and then moved up to Oak Harbor. I know exactly where you're talking about.

Another guy from the Northwest, only I'm from the "Inland" North West!

Same state, just a bit over 300 miles away, up in the NE corner of Washington.

My current wood-working projects usually involve fence and barn building right now. Hope to have time for some more in-depth projects later on. Have somewhere around 7 years experience at a wood mill, and worked as a carpenter for several years....then into the pipe Trades I went. Did get to help my Uncle at his cabinet shop a bit, but not nearly enough.

My problem, I enjoy EVERYTHING that requires "hands-on"......too many hobbies, not enough Life-Time.

I am really a Eastern WA native, grew up in Wenatchee...LOVE the weather there, hate it here. My folks are still in Wenatchee, so at least get to visit often.

Well, I'll just bet making a drawing or plan of a project isn't a problem for YOU!

Might just make lay-out a bit easier too!

Nope, in fact I made detailed plans of the Pergola I posted in the Showcase. Using a pretty decent product called Alibre for 3D modeling and drafting.
