I was not aware that popular grew in Florida, especially here in the Panhandle. I have never seen any mills advertise it. In this area hardwoods are also mostly limited to various species of Oak. Some people think of Cherry Laurel as a hardwood. What types of hardwood are you finding and where. Your area may be a new location for me to look for wood.

Yeah, I've had the local Forrester out several times helping ID trees. I have some big one.

Several different versions of oak. I believe turkey, live and a few others.

If you go to Okaloosa County Craig's list, farm & garden and type in "poplar". Several places offering rough cut.

Just because something is sold in an area does not mean it was grown in that area. wwwlwilsonlumberco.com is the largest "local" miller in the Panhandle. (at least largest I know of. I have been shopping there for 38 y ears) does not mill Popular and does not know of any other mills that do.

The Florida Agriculture Extension Office for Okaloosa County says a few Popular may grow in this area, but does not know of any in commercial quantities, or anybody that cuts and mills.

And yes, there are several varieties of Oak that grow well in this region. Most are not suited to use as hardwood lumber because there is rarely a part of the tree that is straight for more than just a few feet.

I may have to load up some white oak from my place and work out a trade for some cedar. I have a lot of cherry that was cut in Feb. also, some scyamore, red oak, and walnut.
