Hello from Michigan

Hello everybody, I'm Kiran and I'm located in south east Michigan. I have been woodworking for about 4 years. Recently I have shifted my efforts to upgrading my shop.. mainly focused on having a dedicated space for shop, better tools, dust collection, safety and organization. I work in a limited space in my basement so it's crucial for me to restrain the dust collector so that dust doesn't get into the furnace in-take. Looking forward to participating in the forums and learning from fellow woodworkers and share where I can!

Welcome to the forum, sounds like you have a plan, now just get going LOL

It might be better if you reduce or block off the return air in the basement, or keep a good stock of filters on hand, 2 inch pleats will capture most of the dust if there is room for them in the filter rack, that is what I use in my shop, and with the pleats although they are higher priced I can take them out side and blow them out with compressed air, and reuse them many times if you are careful handling them

Thanks Catpower! Keep it going is the hardest part! If I made slow steady progress, I'd get a lot done. I wish I could spend more time in my shop to make everything working but things get in the way! I'm actually working on restricting return from the area where I make dust by building a dedicated work space outside the current return. Once I have the drywalls up, it should work. Also thanks for filter tip! I'm going to look into it. Are you happy with the air return performance of the filter?

Yeah a 2 inch pleat gives you twice as much filter area as a one inch, stay away form the 3M Filtreat filters, they are compressor killers in cooling mode, they have more static pressure than a dirty filter when they are clean

I retired from the HVAC/R field, and have seen the damage they do, honestly they should be outlawed they convince you they are good filters, and honestly they are but they need to be at least 4 inches thick like an Aprilaire or any other replaceable high MERV media filter, then you have enough filter area to lower the static pressure drop across the filter when they are clean
