Hello from Los Angeles
I am a furniture designer and don't do a lot of woodworking myself (although I recently completed a headboard that I upholstered with African mudcloth for my brother), but I am a furniture designer and work with several woodworking shops here in L.A. It's important for me to know how things are made so that I can design them correctly.
I do make full scale cardboard models of furniture in order to refine the design before sending it to a shop for fabrication. We have two new chair projects in production right now, and the workrooms have found my models to be very helpful. One of the chairs has several complex curves, which were difficult to make in cardboard and even more difficult to illustrate properly on paper.
I found this site because of a thread that reviewed digital angle finders. I need to get one so that I can accurately measure angles not only on the cardboard models that I make but also on the shop models that come in from the workrooms.
