Hello From Long Island, New York

Wanted to say hi and i'm happy to find a forum with such friendly, helpful people. I have been around woodworking for my entire life (Dad was a Cabinet Maker). I consider myself an advanced beginner sawdust maker. Now that I am older, I have caught the bug and am taking woodworking seriously.

rfischer 22,

Welcome!
I'm in Hicksville.

I've loved woodworking since the early 70's, and have builtup a decent array of tools. I got a Jet lathe last September and I have been hooked ever since.

i need a lathe! you like the jet model? i don't know what to look for in a lathe. i'd like an outside mount for bigger items.
good luck with it!

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and a "mental illness"

Jason (5-1-6),

I bought a Jet JWL-1220vs from Amazon. I had 2 restraints - Budget and Space. The 1220 would fit into the available space. If I get more room, I can get the extention for the bed. I really like this lathe; well designed and veriable speed. Check the Jet website (jettools.com) to compare their mini, midi, and full-size lathes. They have the manuals on line and their tech support is very good.

BTW the LI Woodworkers Show is 13-14 Nov 2010 at Old Bethpage Village. Lots of turners and good discounts on tools.

Joe
