Hello from LA (Lower Alabama)

Stumbled into this site while thumbing through Gardenweb. I am semi-retired, having worked in Forestry since 1972, following 31/2 years in the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Bought a Shopsmith Mark V in 1978 and built a desk, table lamp and several other items before giving it up due to lack of space and time. I want to get back into woodworking and am looking to get a Milwaukee 12 inch sliding compound miter saw to get going again.

Anybody have any thoughts or recommendations?

Paul

Welcome to the forum Paul! First off thank you for your service in the COE and I hope you enjoy your retirement. Rekindling your woodworking will be a great way to spend it. As far as the Milwaukee SCMS, I say go for it. Those who have purchased them seem to like them and are impressed with its mass and power. There are many quality brands of SCMS out there, and everyone seems to have an opinion as to which is best, but if you like the features offered on the Milwaukee and the price is right, then you certainly could do worse.

I'm really in Alabama. Great place to live and work! Will be a great place to retire and semi-work.
