Hello from Kansas City

Hello folks! I am not a woodworker, but my Cub Scout son and I accidentally made a Champion Pinewood Derby car that came in 1st in our first year. It was just luck, it was our first year building a model car for Cub Scouts. So now the pressure is on me to make an even faster car for next year!

So I want to get some very light Pine, I read somewhre that Sugar Pine can be as light as balsa wood. Is that right?

Where can I get the very best Sugar Pine that is very, very light?

Who can I get to make about 20 pieces like this:
7 inches long, 9/16 thick, 1 11/16 wide

Thanks,

Hi! Stephen

I don't know if sugar pine is as lite as balsa wood or not.
If you are looking for sugar pine I would go on google and look for specialty woods or put in sugar pine. Maybe it will come up with a website that will tell you where you can get sugar pine.

I don't know if this helped?
