Hello from IL

I've been reading posts for a short while and have even written a couple myself. Since I have a bunch more questions, I thought it only polite if I introduce myself before I post. I'm Dan from the St. Louis Metro area. Some years ago, I worked in a local sawmill for a period of time. The kind with the 5' circular blade and moveable log carraige. Scared the [email protected] out of me. But I've seen some beautiful lumber come off that blade and I was hooked. I've been a 'wannabe' woodworker ever since. Slowly over the years I had collected the tools (and lumber, hoards of lumber) required to make some projects. With your help I gain the knowledge that I need to finish a project. So thanks in advance. Sorry for the lenghty intro, I get a little too descriptive sometimes; you'll see that in my posts later.

Welcome from Texas. Once you have the wood bug it is near impossible to get rid of.

Did you say tool sale?

Welcome from AZ.
Used to live 65 miles east of you...on 70 or old 40.
Man, do I miss the readily available hardwoods!

Thanks guys
I'm sure I'll be relying on your expertise in the future.

Gene, I'm 20 miles east of St. Louis on Rt. 40 (Troy) so you're probably closer than you think. And yes the availability of hardwoods is nice. You wouldn't believe some of the salvaged trees (no new cut) I've cut up for firewood. Incedently that sawmill I worked at years ago, burned down about 5 years ago. No insurance, so he couldn't rebuild. But he now operates a bandsaw mill, so any good log I can wrestle onto my 5x8 trailer goes there now. Should have seen my poor little trailer loaded down with a 30"x5' W. Oak log the local tree guy loaded onto it after a storm. Made nice 6/4 and 8/4 boards albeit short, some quartersawn. Good for benches. Should be dry just about now. Sorry no pics, it was my pre-digital era. Sorry for being so long winded, but I believe I warned you.
