Hello

New guy from Indy here. The only woodworking I've done was a project for shop class when I was in 8th grade, and that was many moons ago.

I've been looking for a challenge that I can turn into something substantial (making stuff for around the house and little toys for my niece and nephews).

I'm starting everything from the ground up and I'm in the process of turning my garage into my shop, gathering up tools, and trying to figure out what to attempt as my first project.

If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or advice it's greatly appreciated!

I'm not to far down the road to the east.

Spend time reading posts on here and you will gain a lot. Visit the blogs of in peoples signatures if you want to really be inspired, some of these folks to amazing work!

Ask questions here when you get stuck on something.. don't just bang through it blindly, there's no need for that. Welcome!

How far east of Indy are you? I've been reading the posts on here for the last month or so and it seems like I'm severely outmatched, lol. Luckily the guy I work with is giving me a ton of tools since he has two of everything. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can start posting pictures of some projects that look decent.

Thank you! I actually work with a bunch guys who live around Paragon, so not too far away from you. And, I used to play in a softball league at the Centerton Drive-In a few years back.

Welcome to the forum. All nice people here.A Steinway Piano would be a nice project to start with. Seriously little toys and shelves , boxes ,are the way to start.

***For the record*** Ive made hundreds of guitar bodies, never put one together and cant play a note.

I was finally able to get some tools today. The guy I work with is letting me use his since he hasn't used them in years and he would rather them get used in some capacity. He hooked me up with a band saw, table sander, hand sander, jigsaw, and a router with bits.

Tomorrow my little brother is bringing over my dad's table saw and HOPEFULLY I'll be able to get a ton of pallet's from work since they're giving them away.

With any luck I'll be starting a rough draft of my first project tomorrow night and start the final version early Saturday morning in hopes of being able to give it to my dad for Father's Day.

Welcome.Sounds like you're off to a real nice start on the tool "front".Best of luck,BW

Those who say it cannot be done shouldn't interrupt the people doing it.
