Finally Joined

While I have been building and working in wood for 40 years, only now after retiring do I have enough time to really get deeply into my hobby.

I have recently taken down a birch and a maple. The birch has been fun for so small boxes and crafts showcasing the bark. The maple turned out to have some very nice spalding and tone variations that made for fun turing projects.

Nice, artistic work! Well beyond my ability. Keep posting your work, love to see a real Craftsman.

Welcome to the forum! Do you go by DB? If not you can add your name to your signature line so we'll know what to call you. If you have a website or FB page or Etsy shop you can add the link to your signature, as well.

Those are unique pieces and very creative - good job! Glad you found us so jump right in on some discussions when you're ready. You can show us your shop, more projects, tools, etc., also - we like photos.

db is fine as I do use that in some other forums (SCUBA board for example). Here are a few pictures of the shop.

Due to space limitations I put the planer/joiner on a cart and the sanders on another cart.

I also built the chop box station so it is level with the bench making the bench a support for long pieces. Likewise the bench is an extended table for the table saw (as is the bed of the chop box).

Finishing station and wood storage are in a different room to avoid dust contamination. Dust collection is a shop vac under the bench that reaches the band saw, the sanding cart, and the planer/joiner cart. Router, chop box and table saw don't use active dust collection (room for upgrades here, these were the oldest acquisitions).

I have not yet set up on ETSY, never thought I would be selling this stuff. But I have to now because if I don't the house will overflow now that I have time on my hands.

Setting up your shop and tools is half the fun!

We've had a blast working our Etsy shop and have done far better than we thought we would.
