Hello out there. I want to get started in wood carving, I have tampered in ceramics but I would like to try something with a medium that I can find in my back yard.

I am curious what type of basic tools I'd need, that aren't too much, that would be good for making small sculptures about a foot tall.

What is recommended?
Are palm tools good for small sculptures?
Can a mallet be used with small beginner's tools?

Any advice would be appreciated.
