wrought Iron nails question

I am building a farm house table and want to add some Wrought Iron nails. I am not sure how to install them without damaging the nail head, what kind of hammer should I use? I am leaning towards brass or a mallet.

Thanks
John

Pre drill the hole then tap in with a hammer , you won't damage the nail. It's simple go for it.

When it's rustic......it's rustic

I'm guessing your talking about nails made to look like wrought iron. Yes predrill then tap you can buffer with a wood block. If your actually using hand made wrought iron nails the predrill and tap you can buffer with a wood block or just hot it with a hammer it's a nail.

Right on, I was thinking pre drilling would be a good way to go. I want to avoid marring the finish/ look of the nail especially because I am only installing them for look.
