Whilst bending some wood today...

Simple job was to bend and glue some 1 1/2" by 1/8" thick strips around some previously made forms today.

Only I had a 'helper'...

This particular helper speaks very little English (but is a VERY good woodworker and fully capable of doing anything he wants to do...) but understands tools, pictures and numbers with perfect clarity. He is the type of guy that comes up with 'solutions' when problems arise instead of just whining about them...

The one curve we had to bend around was tight and I 'needed' to soak the last little bit of the work piece so it could follow the bend properly and without breaking. This ended up being very easy (to soak the one section only) and I stopped to show the guy this picture at about the mid point in our glue up and clamping procedure:

He never saw this part of the process until I showed him the picture...

This was not a problem for my helper at all and we kept right on working.

Once we started the last of the 4 forms we were sticking the trim piece to - I started talking about my favorite beer and how it was good for so many different things... (remember - this guy don't speak a lot of English)

I showed the guy this picture:

He left for a few seconds, came back and we finished up. This guy was obviously NOT to be deterred from his task...

We spent the next 30 minutes or so debating which beers were 'better' for laminating and wood bending vs which beers were NOT.

Did all the pieces fit "flush" when you glued it up?

That was funny. Made me spit up some of my soda a bit!

We let the stuff hang over a good 1/8th on each side and sanded down to flush with the surface. Worked well for what we were doing at the time.

The guy I mentioned above has a great sense of humor and can dish it out as well as take it. A few weeks back I was having some serious work vehicle issues and this guy was fairly relentless cracking on me about it.

Walked up at one point and showed me this picture and said, "You... Tomorrow morning..."

Then this one:

Up until now, I could only say that any work that I did then ended up "down the toilet" was a "redo."

Here it's a design necessity. Kinda neat how the toilet's escape facilitates both exposure to water and leverage.
