Hello everyone, I'm sure glad I found this web forum online. A little about myself, I've been working with my hands as long as I can remember. I worked only a tad bit with wood. I would like to learn a better understanding about laminating under vacuum. I've got a grandson that wants to start laminating his own skateboards.

He found a webpage online where they sold him ten skateboards worth of sheeting from. I asked what would make their shape and convex and he mentioned you're able to build your own bags?

I guess our next plan of action is to purchase parts to build vacuum bags, and this is what I need help with. I'm not sure what type of vinyl or polyester material to purchase (thickness, etc). I'm also unsure about how to make the seals, and what else we would need.

someone told me a wine vacuum pump and to use the seals that come with it

I think that you need more information than just what material to use for vacuum bags.

The first thing you need to learn is the entire process of vacuum forming. I am sure that part of that education will provide you the information you need on bags.

Where do you live? Will you need to do all of your ordering by internet or do you live in a country that has all of the materials available. If you live where all is available the supplier may be able to help with how to go about learning the skills needed.

Thanks for your concern, but i understand the process of vacuum forming. I am simply just looking for the resources to get the 20 mil vinyl.

I checked the joe woodworker site, and it seems quite pricy. I would like to find other sources to purchase from.
