I want to make a peppermill that looks like a pear. What wood would you use to simulate the little specks that are on a pear? I was thinking birdseye maple (and dyeing it green), but the eyes are much bigger than the little specks, so I thought I'd ping you guys.

Think of a species, then look it up in Phind's excellent site. Terrific pictures.

My first thought was beech, but the grain may not come through the dye.
