What material for a shop cabinet face frame?

What material for a shop cabinet face frame?

I am finally getting to a couple rolling cabinets for equipment. Everything is currently sitting on gutted table saws or basic table saw stands. I am currently putting together a cabinet for the miter saw. It will have 2 drawers and a cabinet with 1 movable shelf. It will be on 3" casters. it will have 2 fold down wings on the sides and the back will have a fold down router table. I have limited space.

When making a face frame for the cabinet, is it "blasphemy" to use plywood? Pine? If you had to buy the wood for a project like this what would you use on the face frame?

I wouldn't make a face frame. Save your money and make them frameless. Casters aren't cheap. I used 3/4" white melamine for shop cabinets. Tops edged with some oak. Cheap and easy.

Nice. Those look terrific. Hardwood floors in the shop? Those look terrific too!

Part of the process is the build itself. I have never put cabinets or drawers together so as a learning process I am inclined to bang my head against the whole conventional face frame build. With the 2 drawers, I am probably going to try a couple different types of joinery. I am planning on pocket screws for most of the build.

Thanks for the info. I will consider it to be sure.
