Veritas standard dovetail saw question

Would using a standard rip saw on cross cuts ruin the saw in any way?

Or would it just produce a less clean cut?

I dont mind buying another saw if its necessary. At the moment im practicing dovetail work.

Also, could you use the saw i have for tenons?
