You need to get some practice with that hand saw! An fits only a work bench, so who cares if it's perfectly straight. But seriously, if you have a cheap circular saw, start the cut with it, then it'll be pretty easy to finish the cut by following the kerf with a hand saw. I've done this and it works fine. A block plane or a big chisel will clean up the cut nicely when you're done.

I'm going to use the circular saw and hand saw. I just found someone with a nice Makita saw (used) for sale for $30. I'm going tomorrow to see it and if it works I'm buying.
Someone asked which saws I have (sorry I don't remember who and I'm a bit too lazy to look back to see)
Table saw
Hand saw(s)
Scroll saw
A HF piece of junk jig saw..
Adding the circular and next month hopefully a decent used band saw..
I've seen several used 12" craftsman band saws on CL for anywhere between $120 and 250..

I figured it's time to change my signature so hold your breath. This is it.
Impressive, huh?

I would look for at least a 14" bandsaw, you will be much happier with that extra capacity.

I bought the Makita for $30, works great after sqaring the blade to the shoe, cut the 2.5 (or whatever inches) and used the handsaw the rest of the way and sanded it smooth. It looks a lot better than horrible and I didn't poke any new holes in the chain saw.
I have to admit that I wonder how the chain saw would have worked out, but the world will never know.
Someone mentioned buying a used plane on Offerup.com.. That's where I found the Makita so it's all well.

I figured it's time to change my signature so hold your breath. This is it.
Impressive, huh?

I hope to find one at a reasonable price, but a 12" would still beat the 0" which is what I have now for a band saw..
