That adds a whole new dimension to the term "puzzle box".

If Woodworking is so much fun why isn't it called WoodFUNNING?

I've made a few videos

That is some exceptional craftsmanship.

I wonder if this Roentgen is the physicist?

It's a wooden Transformer. I wonder if it's an Autobot or a Decepticon?

I love it. I so wish I could build like this. My home would be so great to have family over at my home with furniture like this; however, I can't and my home is not, but my home is still a nice place for family to come visit. Okay, I sound like Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory."

I was just watching a handful of videos showing some of Roentgen's work. Absolutely mind-blowing! I was actually getting ready to post a link to this video (YouTube link) but thought I ought to do a search before posting. Sure enough, some one beat me to it. Check around on YouTube as well, there's a collection of videos on the guy's (and his dad's, I presume) works. Where is this level of craftsman now? This stuff is absolutely incredible and the craftsmanship is beyond words.

This past weekend my daughter and I went to NY to see the Roentgen exhibit at the Met (closes this weekend). Their level of workmanship is just stunning. Usually I find beautiful furniture inspiring but this stuff is just so over-the-top that I'm a little depressed.
Unfortunately, neither the exhibit nor the book explains how their mechanisms actually work. The Roentgens had a clockmaker named Kinzing, who also collaborated with them on a piano and an automaton. One of the desks had its back removed and you could see a pair of lead weights that drove some of the door and drawers, but I'd love to know more about how their fittings and mechanisms actually work.
