Two Small Chests

Just the following two small chests, to the finishing stage; but I need to cut the tops off. Should I do it before I finish them or do it after I apply the finish? They are all cedar, and hand sanded to 320 grit. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I plan on using poly on them, after one coat of Zinsons sanding sealer.

If you are going to cut it I would do it now. The edges where you cut it will need to be sanded and finished as well.

Ditto

Those who say it cannot be done should stay out of the way of the people doing it.

now. Be sure to shim after the first couple cuts, so it'll cut square for the last two cuts. If you[re using the table saw.

I did just that. Both look good and maybe just a little touch-up with sandpaper.
