Torsion box spacing
Second attempt at a torsion box. it's going to be 40"x40". What is the minimum spacing I should use for the grid underneath it. I was going to do 10" but wanted to make sure, in all of your experience, this was sufficient. I apologize if this has been done to death already.

That may be fine ....
A lot depends on the depth of the cross braces, the thickness of the skins etc. My spacing was about 10" or 12" on this one:

Closer spacing certainly won't hurt. Make all your cross braces at the same rip setting on your table saw.

I'm not certain, but I think it depends on the thickness of the skins and how well the skin will self support between the braces more than anything. I'd imagine 10" spacing would work with a 3/4 skin, but I don't thing I'd go that far apart for a 1/4 skin

The tighter the torsion box the longer the top. Your probably fine on 10x10 depending on support and weight and thickness.

This may be way more info than you need but I found this pdf that seemed to cover the subject. I think a calculator could be made with formulas. Maybe someday...
