Spalted Walnut Help
I recently came across a walnut board, 7 inches wide, 1.25 inches thick, about 6 feet long. A good section of it from the edges to around 3 inches in on each side is heavily spalted. For the most part it feels solild but there are a few punky spots. What is the best way to harden these areas up. Ive heard of using CA but it can cause issues when finishing. Also I would like to resaw it into two pieces and make a music box from it. Should i treat it before or after resawing. Ive never dealt with spalted wood before. Thanks.
the pics dont show the heavily spalted area, I will try and take some more soon to add on here. Just got the side profile and the piece that Im going to use for the box lid.
