Solid wood table top with glass inlaying possible?

Hello I am a begineer attempting my first dining room table. My plan for the top is to use 5/4 solid oak edge glued (after squaring on a router table) and using a glass inlay. I was planning on having about a 3/8 thick 8 inch wide glass piece inlayed down the middle of the table (about 3/4 of the way down the length of the table). I was just going to use a plunge router to route out the 3/8 groove but then i starting thinking about wood movement. My question will this cause the table to eventually crack? Or even the glass the break due to wood movement stresses? Would it be better to build a gap with a rabbit edge so it can just sit in there similar to a glass coffee table? Thanks it advance I would really appeciate any help before this thing explodes during Sunday dinner!!

As long as the glass easily fits in the rabbetted top you shouldn't have to worry about it. There won't be enough movement to cause a problem.

Cut your rabbets and get your glass ~1/8" undersized. Use tempered glass
