Shakie building

I have a 12 x 12 free standing screen building with a hip shingled roof. Needless to say its top heavy and you can shake the biulding. Would 45 degree braces in the corners help the stop the shake?

Yes but they will need to go from the top plate to bottom plate to have maximum effectiveness.

Do one thing at a time, do it well, then move on.

Yup

Triangle braces don't move if the joint is strong. That's why trusses and bridges use them. The longer the better. Just a small block in the corners will help some, but not as much if they were longer.
You can make them a decorative element also. Plywood gussets will work even better. bill

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)

You could even use eye bolts with cables and turnbuckles for minimal view obstruction but you will have to go both ways on the same wall. Like a V or X.

Do one thing at a time, do it well, then move on.

I was hoping to get away with maybe some 2" x 6" about 24" long with 45's cut on both ends placed in each top corner.

Consider if your post are 8' tall that would only stop about 20-25% of your sway. Maybe consider a 3' brace 30 degree angle on top and 60 on bottom.
