Someone told me Home Depot gets everything comes from China, but I don’t know what woods are grown there.

I may just build everything from now on out of popular and stain it oak or something

They're not buying from a lumber yard, but a sawmill. They aren't importing rough lumber. It comes from a relatively speaking local place. (Hundreds of miles)

The tools don't make the craftsman....

hardwood purchase

I recently noticed a cherry board at Menards priced at 30 bucks for a 1x6 x 6 foot. that would work out to 10 bucks a board foot. My local hardwood supply shop has cherry for 7 bucks a bf and it is top quality material. Any questions?

Well I didn't mean a little lumber yard. Some of these hardwood lumber companies are major operations that sell to other stores. I was at one of these places one time when there was a Home Depot truck there getting a load of oak.

I had to work out of town today about 150 miles from my HD and I stopped to check out their wood. Well I guess it is true that they don’t get everything from the same place, because the red oak they had was superb. So I bought a few pieces or at least enough that I could fit in the passenger side of my truck without getting a ticket.
