quick drying wood

I have a friend who gave me a few short lengths of cherry and walnut still in log form. He would like me to make gifts for his brothers for Christmas. I can paint the ends if needed with latex but how can I speed up the drying. Or can anything be made with wet wood?

Get it hot and keep it there and it'll dry pretty quick, but the problem with that is the quicker wood drys the more likely it is to check and crack. Wood takes a good deal if time of dry properly, around 1 year per inch of thickness. You could speed up the process a fair bit by making the wood thinner by resawing into planks instead of keeping it in log form, but even them you're still looking at some time

I need cheaper hobby
