When I run out of ideas or just need to make something, I'll make some small boxes. I usually make hand cut dovetail joints and the boxes can be made any size you like. Many of the ones I make are only 4-5" square, 2-3" high made from 1/4" material. Everybody likes boxes and even if you can't find something to put in them, they look good sitting on a shelf or on top of a dresser.

Depending on what tools you have available they can be made with many different ways - dovetials, finger joints, mitered/beveled joints or even butt joints.

Try searching on the forum. There are many threads on project ideas. If you search you have to get the spelling correct. The keywords are an exact match.

Also scroll through the Project Showcase forum. Many good threads about projects made by other forum members.

Is there anything you or your family need?

Popular projects include :
a) Jewelry box.
b) Cutting boards. I know this was your earlier post.
c) Hot pot / trivet
d) Chess/game board
e) What I call a hanger board for hats, coats or keys.

Maple scraps with bubinga and rosewood inlays, also scraps.
Coat hooks and hanger hardware from Lee Valley. Free shipping on orders over $40 until 7 January.

f) Bathroom robe/towel rack.

Purpleheart, hickory (I am not sure made this a few years ago), middle insert padauk/maple/lacewood.
Wood pegs from Lee Valley. Also available at Woodcraft and Rockler.
Top buttons cover the mounting screws.

I have my hands full on just the shop stuff I need to build. Almost always have a need for a cabinet,or jig or something.

As for the home. Browse some sites that have woodworking plans. Or, browse the project page on this site where people post their completed projects. An idea or two will likely come to you.

When I get at that point, I spend time tuning up my tools, sharpening bits and blades, tidying up my supplies and building things for my shop, like shelves and cabinets.
