Preventing wood rot

Hello, I'm looking for advice on how to prevent wood rot. I'm using an old log I found that had a bit of rot but I got rid of most of it with a wire brush. I've heard of using CPES for preventing rot and hardening wood, but the only application I've seen with CPES is used for boat repair so I'm not sure if it is appropriate in this case. I'm making a lamp out of this piece. I would also like to use a thin layer of epoxy or lacquer (or whatever suggestions others may have as to what is the best finish) after ensuring the wood is sealed and will not rot further. Does CPES prevent epoxy or lacquer from bonding or curing properly?

I've attached a couple pictures of the affected area and where I removed most of the soft wood.
