Porter Cable 15" drill press problem

I just bought a 15" Porter Cable Drill press and assembled it today. Everything seemed to be going great. I put it together without any problems and I plugged it in. I pulled out a scrap piece of wood and began to drill. Well, the drill quit turning as soon as the bit felt resistance in the wood. I tried tightening the belt but didn't do any good. The chuck is secured good and the shaft coming up next to the belts quit spinning as well. Any ideas?

Do the pulleys have keys and set screws?

I'm going to check it out better tomorrow. It ought to be a simple fix, I hope. I might have more questions. Just wondering if someone had the same problem which would help me trouble shoot it.

Had a problem 10-15 years ago at work; we got a drill press from another shop and one of the keys was missing, someone had cranked down on the set screw to make it work. Eventually the set screw sheered off and the pulley spun on the shaft.

There are only two pulleys actually driving the chuck, the one on the motor and the on the spindle, would suspect the one on the motor, perhaps a key is missing.
