Plunge router question
Can the Hitachi 2.25-HP Variable Speed Combo Fixed/Plunge Corded Router be used safely up side down (in a router table) with the plunge base attached for quick depth of cut change??? Or any plunge router for that matter???

I have a Hitachi plunge mounted upside down in a router table with no problems at all.

The issue is height adjustment
When you plunge the bit down from the fully up position it will go down until it bottoms out or hits one of the 3 stops steps. The return spring makes it want to return back to full up OR down when inverted.. This is a problem for making small changes in the height since you are always fighting the spring and there is no previous depth/height setting to reference where you were.
When you use the fixed base, at least on Porter Cable routers, you rotate the motor inside the base to change the height of the bit above the table. You know where your bit was and you can make minute changes up or down by rotating the motor just slightly. I would not like a plunge base router in the table for the reason I stated above.
There are no safety issues in either case fixed or plunge, just the height adjustment.
