Oak Price

I just finished setting up my new jointer and will be buying, for the first time, some rough sawn oak for a project that I'm doing. What is approximate market price per board foot for oak these days. Since I've never bought roush sawn, I don't have a clue. I know if may differ in various parts of the country, but an approximate will help to know if I'm getting a fair price. Any help is appreciated.

Same price, $2, but have had really good luck buying from folks off craigslist. I've found walnut, oak, cherry, cedar, etc. In my experiences, I've ended up with more wood than I paid for becuase the folks were fair about not charging for knots and blemished areas. Unless you are buying large lots, I recommend looking over the wood you buy end to end. There's a few times I've gotten home to find there was a split down the length of a board to the point where it wasn't usable for anything other than firewood. Good luck.

Last fall I got some WO, S2S, SLR, KD at $2.61 but I had to drive 120mi RT to pick it up. I think that RO was about $2.20 at that time.

Use the right tool for the job.
