Question Is it normal for a sawzall motor to spark?

I purchased a brand new Milwaukee Super Sawzall yesterday. I plugged it in to see if it worked and noticed it makes lots of sparks in the motor housing (I can see sparks between the vents) while the trigger is pressed. Is this normal?

Some sparks is normal with any saw however it's not normal to have a lot of sparks. I would take it back.

Thorn, if youre seeing the "little blue electricity bolts" inside the housing thats perfectly normal for any brushed motor. Its simply the brushes making contact.

If you are seeing 'sparks' that for example look like something from an arc welder in use than you have a problem.

Chamfer has it nailed.
Sometimes the brushes need to get "worn in" to the armature.
Big arcs are a no-no.
