Miter Slot Question (What a Noob!)

Ok, So I was noticing something while inspecting my new (old) Delta table saw...

While my Craftsman's saw has plain straight-sided miter slots, the slots on my Delta seem to be "undercut," meaning that they are shaped like an inverted "T".

Is there any real advantage to this?

Yes and No ...?

If you happen to have a miter gauge with the removable plate/disc at the end of the bar which fits into the T slot, it will keep the gauge from falling off the table when you retract it towards the front. Otherwise no big advantage and not really needed for standard table saw operations.

Miter gauge with a T slot disc:

There are other accessories that will fit in the T slots, but I've never needed them:

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)
