Making a trophy mount for a Christmas gift

My brother is a amateur bowler but he's really good. He also runs a pro shop in a bowling alley. He won a small trophy several months ago but he hasn't been able to display it in his shop for fear it might get broken. It's made of crystal and is top heavy with a very small base. So I'm making a mount for it but he doesn't know it. I'm also putting in a small LED light that changes colors to back light it. Thought I'd share a few pics of how it's going so far. I'm in the fabricating stage now and have all the parts cut and fitted. Pics of the assembled project are done with me just holding it together. Nothing is fastened yet. The LED changes to about 10 different colors in all. I just put up a few pics to show how they look.

I don't understand why this site keeps posting my pics sideways. The above pic was uploaded right side up and came out sideways when posted. I rotated the pic 1/4 and reposted and this 1\2 rotated one is what I got.

Anyway, this is just made very simply. It's a 2x8 that I hollowed out to hold the trophy. It's cut to lean at a 25 degree angle so that the trophy doesn't fall out forward but can still be viewed from the front. The mount will be painted jet black with the base and top cap stained and varnished.

Well, I guess the site won't upload more than one pic at a time either, even with multiples selected to load. I'm using an iPad. Wonder if that's the problem?

The back will have a support to strengthen it but likely doesn't really need it. The main support will be screwed done from below, and glued as well. It's end grain to face grain though so glue will only help so much. Maybe the support isn't a bad idea.

I guess the pics will just have to be looked at sideways. Sorry guys. I can't figure out how to make them post upright. Wonder if they're too large and the site is doing this to make them work?

This, um, mortise? It was painstakingly carved out to house the light mechanism. The light was taken from a Christmas ornament on the cheap. A plunge router helped remove the waste. A 1/4 inch chisel finished it.

I made a top piece to cover the light mechanism. It mounts with T slots so all hardware is concealed.

Repost of an earlier pic. Awesome! It's right side up. What I had to do? Rotate each pic and save it, then rotate it right side up again and save again. I don't know why that works but I seem to recall needing to do this before to post here. No idea why, but whatever works.

I'll just post these two right side up and let it go. Y'all get the picture of what I'm doing anyway.
