lowe's poplar score!

I found this beautiful piece of poplar today at Lowes and had to buy it. It's going to make perfect grass and leaves in my intarsia projects. Every once in awhile you can find a jewel at a box store!

That's much nicer than any of the poplar I've seen in the Depots around me!

Never be shy in what you do.

A little education please. That looks pretty much like most of the popular that I see. I know nothing about popular.

What makes that piece special?

Nothing special about it. I just thought it had a beautiful grain pattern especially with the little bit of purple it has in it. When im looking for wood for my intarsia projects i try to find interesting colors and grain patterns, and when i find something i get a little excited. Plus the poplar they get at the box stores here in north florida never looks like this

Lowes actually had a couple of 1x12's up here a couple weeks ago that looked like that. I loved the look of them, and almost got them for a project I was doing, but wasn't sure how they'd look with stain compared to the rest of the project, so I didn't. Very cool looking to say the least.

Nice score, considering what the lumber usually looks like at the box stores around here!

6Speed, what is this "stain" of which you speak..?

p

...ever notice how "I'm sorry" and "I apologize" mean the same thing, unless you are at a funeral..?

Poplar is a nice looking wood but I've had problems with it though too much shrinking and warpage. From the wholesaler I was buying it from, it was cheaper than what I could buy pine for but I had to suspended using it from customer complaints.
