Knockdown table design

I have been asked to build a knockdown table by my younger brother. The plan is to make it from pine. I'm trying to avoid visible hardware on the table, so the first method that comes to mind for making the table knock - down is to join the short rails to the legs with a standard mortise and tenon, then join the long rails with a dovetail that will slide into a dovetail shaped slot on the top of the leg.

Only thing I'm concerned about is whether pine is going to hold up in this configuration after being knocked apart a few times.

There must be a standard way to accomplish this, right? Any tips or especially past experience with knockdown furniture would be great!

It's an old idea but if you would build a table with these metal brackets in the corners the legs would be easily removable. You just put a single hanger bolt in the leg and once assembled you would never know the leg was removable. You could also use wing nuts if the table was broken down often.
