Kitchen Cabinet Door Inserts

I'm wondering if someone can give me some guidance on routing solid 3/4" thick birch plywood cabinet doors to insert a piece of glass. I'm confident I can make a routing jig but am wondering about the correct type router bit to use and tear out on the front of the door when taking out the area of the door for the glass insert. I plan to do a 1/4" wide lip X 3/8" deep on the back of the door to support the glass. Can I do everything to route the recess for the glass and remove the cutout from the back of the door? I'm thinking I would have two router setups one for the recess in the back and one to cut thru and remove the cutout for the glass. Please let me know what you think when you get a moment - Thanks for your help...

The easiest way to make the glass opening is to cut the hole the size you need for the glass opening and then put some trim around the opening. It will make the lip as well as covering the plywood edge. Another option would be to cut the 3/4" smaller and tape the edges with veneer tape. Then make the lip by routing the opening with a rabbeting bit with a roller bearing on it.
