Just FYI

Having posted two posts seeking advice on how best to finish bamboo I'm very surprised at the lack of apparent experience with this material--so it's not wood. So what?!?!
Anyway. I experimented. I discovered Tung Oil. I discovered Tung Oil adheres very well to bamboo even w/o sanding the surface!!! It penetrates. It sticks to the darn weed! And I kinda like rubbing it in by hand. The first coat could also be diluted with mineral spirits for extra penetration.
So, problem solved!
Just FYI.

I'm glad you figured it out and are pleased with the results. The only bamboo I've used in the last few years came in boxes of flooring. Not only was it nice and flat, but came pre-finished.

If Woodworking is so much fun why isn't it called WoodFUNNING?

I've made a few videos

Thanks for the tip
I haven't got any plans for bamboo in my future but I did try Tung oil last year on an outdoor glider and was really pleased with the way it handled the winter. I put 5 applications on last year and am planning a couple of more this year and figure it should be good for a loong time after that.

I have a suggestion but not for your problem. I am glad you got a solution and everything worked out.

First off all four of your post should probably be in one thread, the first one you started.

1) You asked a question
2) had a response to the answers
3) You then had another thread which was the same project just
another issue.
4) You had a solution for your project.

I had to go back and read all of them to get the whole picture. Matter a fact the first one I seen was the last one and it sounded like it was posted with a little attitude. Well until I read the rest and got a better idea of the whole story.

Some threads don't get a good response for what ever reason. I'm thinking it's because of the title sometimes and in this case the actual topic may not have been one people had allot of experience with plus the titles.
