I can't Stand It Anymore, I gotta Tell Someone

A couple of years ago a friend called me up and asked me if I would be interested in buying a pickup load of semi rough cut oak boards that he bought but decided that he wasn't going to use them, the price was $250.00.

I jumped on it and went over and paid the man and asked if I could leave them there until I made room in the garage after doing a bunch of mechanicing...

I went and picked them up at night a few months ago and while I was at work they were unloaded and stacked for me. They have not been touched until yesterday.

It is now time to start building the bathroom cabinets for our new bathroom so I grabbed some boards and ran them through the saw, after about the 5th board I smelled a familiar smell. The smell of walnut wood!!!

Long story short, when all was said and done I had about 75 board feet of oak and about 200 board feet of walnut.

All for $250.00

OUTSTANDING - and for a great price! Thanks for sharing the "envious" story, and hope to see some pics of the end result. Be safe.

Nice! I just broke down a pallet that was made of walnut. Couldn't believe it.

I hate signatures.

Good deal, I know you went to sleep with a smile on your face.

Kinda made me think of an old antique house I restored years back, about a 5000 sq ft house the entire roof was decked with walnut, I almost cried.

If that makes you cry listen to this. I was doing a job in a high end home several years ago, when I walked in I noticed the fireplace mantel and beautiful bookcases/casework on each side was made of beautiful walnut, it was gorgeous. I went about my work installing ceiling mold and other casework in the room. When I came back to set the hardware, they had painted the walnut mantel and casework, I almost fainted.

They were not just bookcases, they were a work of art the way they were built, they were heirloom quality, and they painted them and marbilized the ceiling mold. That was the big thing back then, they said the casework would not look right with the marbilized ceiling mold if it weren't painted.

There should be a law against painting walnut. My wife paints as a hobby and I frame her pictures. She wanted a black frame and all I had at hand was some walnut. I told her she can have her black frame, but there's no chance in hell she's getting my walnut. I won't even stain it.

I ended up going to home depot for some poplar.

I don't agree with it at all but I do get it. Some people just don't have appreciation for wood.

But then again walnut is walnut....mmmmmmmm.....waaaalnuuut......
