I tried everything I had to cut off a screw that an installer left high of the 2 x 6 but it seemed pretty hard. Even bought a 6" grinding stone coated blade and thought I was being careful but found scratches in the frame. I gave up and notched out for the screw (could have done that earlier!!)

Any ideas how to clean that up?

Bless y'all!!

I think the installer owes you a new window or at least hire a professional to repair it.

There are some things you could do to help it but it really needs to be done by someone with experience or it will look like a patch. Someone with experience in repairing vinyl can make the spot go away. I myself have never done it so I couldn't walk you through it. I know they make vinyl repair kits like you repair vinyl siding you could use. There is also vinyl paints in a rattle can that you could paint the window after the repair but if you have more than one new window it would have a different appearance.

Start by getting the scratches clean. Try Windex. If that doesn't work, try denatured alcohol.

There are products that can be sort of painted on that will fill the scratches. Unless the color is an exact match you won't be happy. Regardless of what you use I don't think you'll be able to match the gloss. Try your supplier or Home Depot.

I will tell you this but I won't take responsibility for the results.
First try to level the scratches. Use a single edge razor blade angled away from the direction you are scraping. A light touch and many, many passes to do the job. Wipe the vinyl swarf away with Windex on a paper towel.

Finally, lightly and delicately wipe the scratches with a lint free cloth and some MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) from a marine store. Get a feel for how much the MEK dissolves the vinyl by practicing on the bottom edge. With a little bit of work you should be able to get the scratches out.
