Here are some photos of the hope chest I built for my daughter this year. It's in black oak that I had cut from some trees the company I work for cut down about 8 years ago. I had forgotten about the wood until I dug through the barn looking at what I had for the project. I use cope and stick joinery for the panels then tongue and groove to join the four panels together. The black oak kind of looks like white oak but the color can vary quite a bit. I'm going pretty basic for the finish and am just going with some Watco Danish oil. I started with cherry but it wasn't dark enough so I went with dark walnut. Another coat and attach the lid and I'll be set.
