Help with wood identification

Just bought this from an estate sale. The owner said it came from the beach in Encinitas, CA about 10 years ago.
He thinks it is ironwood.
Can anyone confirm or help identify what it is? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! When you get a minute complete your profile with first name and location. Your location will show in the left panel and you can add your name to your signature line so it will show in each post.

I have a small piece of Ironwood but it's not large enough to really identify or compare with that chunk you have. Someone should be along shortly to assist, though. Looks heavy.

Reminds me of mahogany - straight grained, redish brown color and bark similar to West Indian and Broad Leaf Mahogany. If it is, its a long way from home!

Looks like a chunk of Redwood to me.

If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it over?
