Help! Trying to make a wedding guest board...

So my wedding is coming up in a month and instead of a guest book I want to do a wooden guest board for everyone to sign. I bought a small pallet, I have stained it the color I want and painted a small design using acrylic paint. Can I put a few coats of poly over it and then have guests sign it with sharpies and then once that is finished can I put an addition coat of poly over it to seal the writing??

You'd have to spray on the final coat of the poly, otherwise you'd risk smearing the sharpie. Other than that your methodology is sound. I'd recommend using a polycryclic instead of an oil based poly to prevent yellowing though

I need cheaper hobby

This subject has been on here before.

Have you checked with your future wife to be sure that she is OK with your approach to the wedding book. Wives do many things with wedding books long after the event. A board would not be appropriate for these things.

Unless this is a very small wedding with few guests this board will need to be very large. People do more than just sign their name.

I would suggest that you have a traditional wedding book and a board just for signatures if desired.
