hanging exterior shutters

Good morning to all. I am in the process of making new exterior shutters for a customer raised panel and made of white oak and will be finished with cetol. These shutters will be stationery. I am contemplating using french cleats to mount these to the brick. I don't want to drill through the face and mount with screws. What do you think? Any other sugestions or comments will be deeply appreciated. Thanks Mike

I hesitate to use anything that does not solidly fasten the shutters to the building. Of course I live in hurricane country where we do get high speed winds.

Also the French Cleats will make the shutter stand out from the wall. Are you going to make the outside frame suppiciently deep that there will be no gap?

Kessmi6 - how did your shutters turn out?
