Half Mortise locks

I am installing half mortise locks in small -jewelery box size-boxes. I know the best way to get the top to fit the bottom is to glue up the carcase then cut off the top. The problem then is how to mortise in the lock when there is very little room to get at the inside of the bottom part with mallet and chisel or small router to mortise out the place for the lock? What is the best way to install a half mortise lock?

I ran into the same problem ....

If you cut the box apart after glue up, you can not work on it prior. I just had to take my time and take away small amounts with a sharp chisel. The lock was bad enough, but the hinges were even more of a challenge:

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)

Bill,
Thanks for posting the progress on this box build again. First time I've seen it. Great documentation with the pictures. Turned out very nice. Lots of work on these little projects.
