When I returned the liquid nails to the hardware store they said (like you) that Loctite was a far better product. It is!! after 4hours it was like a rock and it holds fine. It is more expensive $6.50 vs 1.29 but for the amount I use its no big deal I will have it for the next 10 years.

unless it dries up on you, which seems to happen to me... sometimes they last longer if they have a cap though. or maybe theres a secret I have not learned.

Jam a nail in the tip, makes a pretty airtight seal. Ive heard keeping the tip immersed in water works well too
